About us
We complement the treatment of disease by improving health, fitness, energy, and performance through exercise.
The center works closely with providers, medical staff, and referring physicians so exercise medicine is integrated into the treatment of a medical condition.
Exercise medicine begins with exercise physiology, which focuses on how the body's physical and chemical makeup relate to daily activities such as play, school, and leisure. We want to help them boost their self-esteem, and to enjoy physical activities and exercise throughout their lives.
The program collects data to measure and evaluate health improvements. In each case, the relationship between exercise and the youngster's medical condition is tracked closely. Staff at The Exercise Medicine Center consult with youngsters' physicians, parents, and other meidcal care providers to review progress and health needs.

What should we expect from an exercise physiology session?
Your intial visit will take about 60 minutes. Please bring exercise clothing for your child, including shorts, a T-shirt, and comfortable shoes.
Your child's needs are partially determined through a computerized survey that measures such things as activities and health. This survey was especially developed for the PowerCubed program by Dan Halvorsen.
Then, tests will evaluate your child's body composition (measuring percentage of fat and muscle), flexibility, coordination, power, and endurance. Results of the assessments will be reviewed and your child will receive an exercise prescription.
Gradually, and when it is medically appropriate, the duration and intensity of the workouts increase. These increases are carefully prescribed and monitored by our exercise physiology staff, in consultation with your child's primary physician.
